Intro to Ed: Make-Up Day 4 & 5

Day 1:

Day 2:

Intro To Ed Field Experience: Mrs. Barker- Day 3

I have been observing in the Southside Middle School. The class I am in was Mrs. Barkers 6th Grade Literacy Class.

One thing I really liked about the whole class was that everyone was respectful. For example, teachers and students in the classroom were all using manners. No one in the class was disrespectful. I like that Mrs. Barker has that engraved in her classroom and all the students respect it very well.

Another thing I favorited about Mrs. Barker's whole class was that everyone was willing to answer, even if they thought they was wrong. On this day, the board said to "try your best". I feel as if most of all students that day was trying their best and they was confident enough to share thoughts and answers.

One method I liked about Mrs. Barker was that she always has the class expectation on the board. She changes this out every week, so every week the class expectation is different. When the students walk into the class room they already know to look at the expectations for the week. Mrs. Barkers reads the expectations and has the class discuss what it means and how they class can work on the expecations.

Another method I liked about Mrs. Barker is that she tries to change things up. This was my third day and they have did something different every single time. Today they had to read a book and then talk to their neighbor about what they read. Mrs. Barker does this so they can recall what they read in a different manner and then take their test.

Mrs. Barkers class had a lot of good conversations going in her classroom on this day, and that is what she strives for, for her students to communicate with one another.

Ed Tech Field Experience: Ms. Sweat - Day 5 & 6

I have been observing at Southside Middle School for the past few weeks. I have became part of Ms. Sweat amazing classroom. Ms. Sweat is a 4th Grade Math Teacher whom I have watched teach and make memories with two full classes.

During my 5th day in Ms. Sweat class I enjoyed watching the students play their review game for their test. Their review game was on a LMS that Ms. Sweat uses. During this game I watched the students laugh and giggle with Ms. Sweat. I joined in on the fun once I got the hang of it. In just a few minutes the whole class was laughing and having fun playing the review game. This game was fun but also a perfect review for fourth graders, it kept them all engaged and excited. Once the game was over, their confidence for their quiz was boosted.

Another thing I liked about Ms. Sweat class on day five was Ms. Sweat allowed her students to blurt out answers to problems during bellwork. Ms. Sweat would read the question and the students would blurt out each step to the problem and Ms. Sweat was write what they would say. If students was wrong she would stop explain that step and continue. I think this is a good stragety on making school fun. Sometime students get bores of letures and need to talk alittle bit.

My day observing was day six. Day six was great in Ms. Sweats class. One thing I like about Ms. Sweat;s class on day was that Ms. Sweat had patience. It takes a lot to have 20 something fourth graders yelling things at you. But, Ms. Sweat wanted her students to have fun so she was patience with each and every one of them on this day. Another thing I liked about Ms. Sweat on this day was that she played music while the students was working on their bell work. Not every day does she do this so the kids enjoyed it. I like the way Ms. Sweat is able to change things up.

These were the last days in Ms. Sweat's class and I enjoyed watching her teach. I can say I learned a lot about teaching just in six days. Patience is definitely key to any grade, and having fun is a big factor. Making students feel loved and welcome is something that Ms. Sweat strived for and she done that very well.

Ed Tech Field Experience: Ms. Sweat - Day 3 & 4

I have been observing in the Southside Middle School in Ms. Sweats's 4th Grade Math Class. On the first day of being a student intern in the Middle School, the first thing I noticed was a sense difference. The smell of the middle school is exactly what you would imagine.

The bathrooms are tiny, the students are wilder, and the teachers have more patience. Ms. Sweat's classroom is very welcoming and homey. As you walk in the lights are dim and there is soft lights hung around the room. Attached to the ceiling is smiley faces and on the walls in there are so many great affirmations for the students to look at for beautiful reminders. One of the posters I like that she has hung up would be the, Undo, Copy, Redo, Paste posters. These posters show and tell the students how to copy and paste, ect.

One thing I liked as a while I was observing in Ms. Sweat class was that she she uses posters like affirmations to keep her class in check. Her students know where to look when looking for a good affirmation. Another thing that I liked about the class was that when the observers came into the room all of the students stayed quiet and did work.

One thing that I observed about Ms. Sweat as a teacher was that she was constantly walking around the classroom helping students. For example, after she was done reading bellwork she walked around assisting students with their hand raised. Another thing, I observed about Ms. Sweat and like was that she never sat down. Throughout the whole class time she was standing up walking around helping students. I did not see her sit down not one time throughout the whole one hour and thirty minutes.

One thing I observed in Ms. Sweats class was that I would consider using would be the board with all the days of the week and written out beside it is the workbook lesson for each day and the page numbers. I would consider using this because it allows the students to know what to expect throughout the week. Another thing I would consider using would be the the whiteboard with the definition words written on it. I would consire using this becasuse it is a resource for the students to look back on.

Overall, days three and four went well. I enjoyed observing Ms. Sweat and her classroom. I love how engaged her students are and how well they pay attention and recall things. The resources Ms. Sweat uses in her class seem to be helpful for all students. I see students looking back at the defintion board to recall meanings of words during bellwork.

Intro To Ed Field Experience: Mrs. Barker- Day 1& 2

I have been observing for Introduction to Education over the last few weeks. I was placed in the Southside Middle School in Mrs. Barker's 6th Grade Literacy Class. Walking down the 6th Grade hallway brings back so many memories.

Mrs. Barkers room is filled with so much love and respect on both the students and the teacher's end. Every students was saying, "yes ma'am and no ma'am" to Mrs. Barker. As well as the students using manners when talking to their teacher, Mrs. Barker does the same in return when talking to her students. I feel this brings the classroom together as a whole and causes less problems in the classroom.

Day 1: As I walked in to Mrs. Barkers room, the students were quietly at work. I saw them writing in their notebooks. I looked up at the whiteboard and saw that they were working on bell work. All of the students were focused and writing. When they finished with their bell work, some pulled out books from their backpack and began reading, some students asked to go to the library and some students went to the class library. But, as soon as every student had a book they all went to reading. Mrs. Barker gave them a few minutes of reading time and then it was workbook time. All the student got out their workbooks and Mrs. Barker instructed. Before began working on the workbooks, Mrs. Barker had all the student find a new partner to pair up with and they had to have a 2 minutes conversation with the question "Is technology good for kids?". Alot of the students had good answers. Most said yes and no but they had too explanations with their no and yes. After the conversations were over Mrs. Barker read a blog to the students and then they had to answer 5 questions. By the time all the students finished their questions it was time for lunch. All the students packed up and ran out the door. A boy said something that was dirty and another boy had a remark back. All the students were laughing and cutting up and the "joke". Once the bell rang for lunch everyone opened the door and Mrs. Barker said the two boys name and they had to stay in alittle bit for lunch with Mrs. Barker.

Day 2: On day two, as I walked into class, I sat in my chair and pulled out my papers to begin observing. A girl then had walked up to me and we had a small conversation. By the time this conversation has ended, Mrs. Barkers announces that everyone needs to be working on their bell work and not talking. Everyone then stopped talking and begin writing. Mrs. Barkers put an 11 minutes timer on the promethean board for the bellwork. When the timer went off, Mrs. Barkers said, for everyone to put their notebooks and books away and get out their workbooks. All the students did so. There was chattering going on during this time, but Mrs. Barker allowed it. Once everyone had their workbooks out, they had to turn to a certain page. Mrs. Barkers waited on the students to turn to the right page and get quiet. Once the class has successfully done this, Mrs. Barkers goes around the room and asked the students what they wrote in the their notebooks for bell work. Each student who was called up said what they wrote and some had started some good conversations. In this sixth grade Literacy class, they are talking about how technoolgy has changed, and also how technology can be beneficial for even students in the middle school. Some of the students opened doors to conversations about AI. It was cool to see the young students think outside the box and not only think about computers as technology but vehicles and almost everything in this day and time. As the students finished talking, Mrs. Barkers told the students what story they was going to be reading for the day. When this was finished, Mrs. Barkers began to read the story. She read about half of the story and then allowed volunteers to read the passage as well. Once the passage was read, Mrs Barker allowed the students to partner up and answer the 6 questions. Once the questions was answered the students went back to their desk and read until it was lunch time.

Ed Tech Field Experience: Ms. Sweat - Day 1 & 2

3/13- Day 1: As my peers and I walked down the hallways we found all of our teachers in one room. We sat down and started to fill out our papers. Around 8:50am, the noise of 4th graders filled the hallways. Running and screaming was all to be heard. Ms. Sweat and the other teachers just knew, what a day it was going to be. Ms. Sweat guided me to her class and got me a table in her classroom. The very first thing Ms. Sweat says to her students is, "Get out your bellwork, and begin working". Usually students will be wandering around the classroom, sharpening their pencils, asking questions, or getting their binder out. Anything but doing their bellwork. On this day, the students were learning rounding. They had to round to the nearest tenth on their bellwork for the day. Another question on their bellwork was division. Around 9:10 on this day, Ms. Sweat began to go over the bellwork with the students. I love her method with this, she allows her students to blurt out the steps to each problem. The students seems to enjoy this. During her first class, I really enjoyed watching a little girl work, she was a quick learner, doer, and helper. She would ask her questions, finish her work and then offer to help someone she knows is struggling. One thing I did notice was one girl in this class wore headphones the entire time. On this day I also learned about the Middle School's award system, which is DOJO. DOJO is a computer based system that allows students to earn points, they can also have points taken away. At the end of the nine weeks, if the students have so many points they get what they call a "DOJO Recess", this is basically just an extra recess. As the second class walked in they were more quiet on this day than the first class. They got their bell work out and began working with no distractions. As Ms. Sweat began to go over bell work the clock struck 10:50am. The summary of the clinical activity would be the dividing and rounding. During bell work the students were allowed to use the restroom, sharpen pencils, talk quietly, and read a book when they finished.

3/25-Day 2: During the second day of being in Ms. Sweat's class I observed the whiteboard being used for bell work. I also noticed that the workbooks they use for their lesson are I-Ready notebooks. Ms. Sweat handed out the bell work.

One thing I liked about about the whole class on this day was all of the students was engaged. For example, during the lesson a student was thinking outside of the box and said, "A dollar bill is a rectangle." Ms. Sweat acknowledged this students for thinking outside of the box. Another example of the whole class being engaged on this day is, their was a whole class discussion over segments. Ms. Sweat allowed all students to communicate to one another about the topic.

One thing I observed and likes about Ms. Sweat today was that she was allowing all of her students to share their thoughts. Some days teachers tend to shut off students thoughts when they could be valid. Another thing I noticed today was that Ms. Sweat was giving out snacks to everyone who needed. She shared hers with the students who didn't bring snack.

3.2 Puppet Show (Preschool)

Today, Febuaury 29, 2024 I went to the Southside Preschool to read a book and do a puppet show that matched up with the book. Over the past few moths I have written a childrens story and created puppets and a backdrop for the puppets. There was positives and negatives to this experience.

A positve about this experience would be that I went to a class that I observed in last year. All of kids was so happy to see me and I got to see the best teachers. I loved seeing all the littes from last years, and meeting all the sweet new faces. Most of the kids ran up to me as I walked in, running me over.

Another posotive from this experience is that the students loved the puppets. They kept wanting to hold them. Their favorite thing on their puppets was the pipe cleaners I have put on the sticks. At the end of the story and show I let the students look at the puppets and pass them around.

A negative about this experience was that I found out my childrens book was not age appropriate for preschoolers. This was okay because it was a good lesson. I now know my story needs to be read to a 3rd grade class at the least.

Overall this experience was amazing and I enjoyed seeing all the little faces.
